However, this patient had reached the point where wrinkles were apparent even when his face was at rest. He hoped to achieve a natural-looking reduction in the appearance of these lines.

Belotero is made of hyaluronic acid, much like Juvederm and Restylane. However, its molecules connect differently to form a seamless, continuous substance. Juvederm and Restylane products are considered to be older generation products. They consist of particles in a gel that may form clumps. By contrast, the lightweight, even consistency of Belotero is ideal for filling in fine superficial wrinkles.

Unlike Juvederm and Restylane, Belotero will not produce a bluish discoloration, known as the Tyndall effect [1]. This occurs when light rays bend as they pass through a gel suspension. Since the skin around the eyes is very delicate and thin, this area is more susceptible to the Tyndall phenomenon, which can look like bruises.

Why do I get crow’s feet when I smile?

Crows’ feet wrinkles are formed by certain groups of muscles around the eyes. These include the orbicularis oculi. They are also caused by what is referred to as the smiling muscles. Specifically, these are the levator labii superioris and the zygomaticus major and minor. Although you have always had these muscles, the skin around the eyes becomes thinner and less elastic. When you smile or squint, crow’s feet grooves become visible. Over time, etched lines form, which may become more profound as you get older.

If I want to know how to get rid of crow’s feet without Botox or Dysport, is Belotero my only option?

According to Dr. U, Belotero is certainly one option to consider. As a filler, it produces results quickly and within a predictable timeframe. Laser is another option. This works by applying light/heat energy to deeper layers of the skin and triggers cells called fibroblasts to create more collagen. This approach can improve the skin’s firmness, making moderate to minor crow’s feet lines less visible. However, due to different factors, each patient will have a different capacity to produce new collagen. Therefore, the timeframe for seeing the results you want is less predictable.

What other areas can Belotero treat besides crow’s feet?

Belotero comes in different formulations, like Hydro, Soft, Balance, Intense, and Volume. It can generally fill in various fine lines on the face, including vertical lip lines.
