What Are Blackheads?

Blackheads are a common form of acne that develop when hair follicles become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and debris. When the pore remains open, the material oxidizes, turning dark—hence the name ‘blackhead.’ These plugs are called comedones, and while they aren’t as painful as inflamed lesions such as pustules or cysts, they are nonetheless irritating and can harm your self-image.

Why Shouldn’t You Squeeze Blackheads?

Squeezing a blackhead isn’t the most efficient way to get rid of it. Doing this can cause redness, inflammation, hyperpigmentation, and scarring.
