Learn When Natural Isn’t Always Good

Dr.U Loves Natural Products, but sometimes an ingredient, even natural, isn’t good for your body. The FDA issues a safety alert on Wen Natural Hair Products. Wen’s founder Chaz Dean is discovering something we all need to know: just because something is found in nature, it doesn’t mean it’s safe.

Here’s an excerpt from the FDA statement

The FDA is investigating reports of hair loss, hair breakage, balding, itching, and rash associated with the use of WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner products. While the FDA continues its investigation, consumers should be aware of reactions reported in association with the use of WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner products.”

Dr. Sanusi Umar (Dr. U), a well-published academic author and expert in hair loss and a board-certified hair restoration surgeon explores the topic of all natural ingredients on https://dru.com.

Always Study the Complete Ingredient List of All Hair Products You Use

You never want to take things at face value. Celebrity endorsements don’t mean product claims be natural are safe for you. What if you are allergic to an ingredient? Always carefully study the complete ingredient list of whatever hair product you plan on using. You want to verify claims like (Petroleum free, natural, sulfate free etc.) and stay away from ingredients that might hurt you.

Just like nature, some products labeled as natural can sting you!

If You Are Suffering From Hair Loss, See Your Dermatologist

We all shed a limited number of hairs a day, on average even up to 100 may be normal. Only your dermatologist can tell you for sure. When hair loss is caused by the use of a product, when you stop using the product, often your hair grows back. Have a question? Just Ask Dr. Umar. Dr. Umar is happy to answer your question about your personal situation and hair loss.

Just because something is natural (After verifying it is natural 🙂 ) it does not mean it cannot harm you. A lot of deadly poisons are naturally derived from plants, like the beautiful foxglove plants in our picture. The leaves contain an ingredient that is poison and used in heart medication.  You can be allergic to natural products. After all, pollen is natural yet many people owe their seasonal allergy experience to this very natural plant part (Pollen). Do not get me started on poison ivy etc.  Remember, forearmed is forewarned. Be careful out there in the natural world, it’s a jungle out there
