Green Light to End the Cicatricial Folliculitis (Part 2)

John’s medical care plan focused on preparing him for surgery by improving his general health status prior to addressing the longstanding cicatricial folliculitis or bumps at the back of his head. Dr. Sanusi Umar assessed John’s medical history to identify any factors that may impact healing and/or long term results from surgery.

John has been having regular weigh-ins and followed a medically supervised program using semaglutide, since these will be critical to his pre-surgical preparation due to the chronic nature of his scalp conditions. This includes the inflammatory and scarring changes occurring around the hair follicles in the skin.

John has been taking semaglutide for 4 months, and he has his weight checked every week.

Past Reasons Why Previous Weight Loss Methods Failed

Similar to other patients who have attempted to lose weight, John has also used various strategies, including restrictive diets, intermittent fasting and extreme calorie restriction, resulting in no sustained weight loss over time.

It was not merely the weight loss itself, it was the structure of his plan that was changed under medical supervision and the way John viewed food, exercise and consistency.

This structure change resulted in less metabolic stress and better chronic inflammation management, which are critical to successfully managing scarring scalp disorders.

Dr. Umar tells John that he has lost 72 pounds within a 4-month period with taking semaglutide.

Permission to Progress with Surgery

After 4 months of monitored treatment, John achieved a greater than 70 pound weight loss. As a result, his surgical risks decreased, and his potential for successful wound healing increased. Clinically, John had achieved all required metrics to proceed.

Due to the significant improvements in his health, there were no longer any impediments to moving forward with the original surgical plan; to finally address the persistent scalp lesion causing John’s chronic pain, swelling and recurrent problems for many years.

Dr. Umar, the Bumpinator, says that he is giving the green light for John to undergo the surgery, and right now, there is nothing more holding them back in removing the lesions off of his head.
