Best Leg Vein Removal Los Angeles: Prominent leg veins, also known as varicose veins, are large leg veins along the legs and feet. These veins appear enlarged, gnarled, and a different color contrasting the skin, resulting in a prominent appearance.
What causes leg veins?
Leg veins become visible due to dysfunctional valves within the blood vessels. Valves in the blood vessel help blood move in a single direction back up to the heart after they have delivered oxygen to cells in the body. Yet these valves can weaken due to factors like genetics or ongoing pressure. This causes blood to flow downwards and collect in the lower part of the body, resulting in reddish or bluish veins that can be seen on the skin’s surface.
If you have leg veins you want to be removed or reduced, leg vein removal procedures are available to help restore leg veins to a normal-looking appearance.

The Use of Laser For Leg Vein Removal
Laser treatment was used to reduce the appearance of this patient’s leg veins.
The Benefits of Laser Treatment for Leg Vein Removal
Laser treatment reduces the chances of scarring because it is less invasive compared to surgery.
It offers a practical and precise way to correct or change unwanted tissue structures. The effectiveness of laser treatment will depend on the skill of the operator and the type of wavelength used.
How Does Lasers Help Remove Leg Veins?
Laser treatment uses different wavelengths to target critical tissues within the leg vein.
For example, laser wavelength needs to be absorbed by oxygenated hemoglobin in the blood to destroy the walls of unwanted blood vessels clogging the valves of the leg vein.
The Dr. U Skin & Hair Clinic patient in these photos underwent leg vein removal using the Gentle YAG (long pulse) laser, which uses the 1064nm wavelength.
Dr. Umar typically uses laser energy for less than 3mm veins. Diameters more significant than 3mm can be addressed effectively with sclerosants. For this patient, the Gently YAG successfully removed the unwanted leg veins. What once were unsightly veins had now become waste tissue, broken down to small enough particles to be removed by the body through its natural processes.
Here are before and after pictures of the patient’s leg vein treatment using the Gentle YAG procedure. The final results are shown after two treatments.

FAQ – Leg Veins, Varicose Veins, Spider Veins Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between varicose veins vs. spider veins?
Varicose veins are enlarged and twisted veins that can appear anywhere on the body but are more commonly found in the legs.
On the other hand, Spider veins are more minor in appearance and can have a “spider web”- like shape. They are blue or red and can be found on the face, legs, and just under the skin [2].
Are varicose veins a severe medical condition?
Varicose veins are not considered a severe medical condition but can be uncomfortable and lead to more serious problems later.
Due to their noticeable appearance, they may cause people who have them to feel uncomfortable or embarrassed.
What are the factors that contribute to varicose veins?
Varicose veins may be more common in some families due to genetics. Generally, increased vein pressure can cause varicose veins – factors that may increase vein pressure and lead to varicose veins include:
- Obesity
- Older age
- Being female
- Inactivity
- Leg injury
- Pregnancy
- Smoking
- Oral contraceptive pills
- Hormone replacement
An excellent way to prevent varicose veins is to regularly exercise, improve circulation, and possibly reduce the likelihood of developing varicose veins [3].
