Today is John’s surgery day and the clinical team is working to prepare him for his surgery. The team, lead by Dr. Sanusi Umar, has worked with John to help manage many of the complications he has developed due to his complex scalp conditions.
They are planning to target both the visible lesions and the inflammation when they prepare John for surgery. Each aspect of John’s preparation will be done with great care to assist John with healing and to create a healthy scalp.

Treating Both Acne Keloidalis Nuchae and Dissecting Cellulitis
In addition to surgically excising John’s primary burning hairline bumps, Dr. Umar explained that this procedure would also treat areas affected by nodulocystic scalp disease. Unlike procedures that treat these two separate conditions individually, the surgical plan for John is to treat both aspects of chronic follicular disease simultaneously.
This multi-faceted treatment plan is particularly beneficial for individuals with overlapping scalp disorders who may experience inflammation and scarring that affects adjacent skin.

Using Nanofat to Support Tissue Repair and Healing
During John’s procedure, fat will be taken from John’s abdomen, processed into nanofat through specific processes including spinning and filtering the fat. Processing the fat allows the regenerative cells that exist within the fat to be released and then injected into damaged scalp tissues.
Research has demonstrated that these cells provide supportive properties to promote tissue repair and healing to assist in the management of the three scalp conditions. The use of nanofat will help improve post-surgical outcomes and to generate healthy scalp tissue in the future.
