Dr. Sanusi Umar, along with his surgical team is now ready to remove the bumps off of John’s head. He started by completing the removal of all of the remaining scalp scarring disorder.
Then, simultaneously attempted to remove all diseased skin as possible from the chronic scalp abscessing disorder and the structure and development of the cutis verticis gyrata (CVG) of the scalp.

Surgical Strategy to Address Multiple Diagnoses Simultaneously
The surgical strategy was to treat all three diagnoses concurrently. By doing so, Dr. Umar was able to address both the main AKN lesions, the dissecting cellulitis involved areas of the diseased tissue, and the CVG-involving portions of the scalp where feasible.
An integrated approach like this is advantageous when there are three diagnoses that have developed secondary to chronic inflammation, scarring, and damage to hair follicles. This approach has the advantage of providing more control over the progression of the disease and supporting the long term health of the scalp.

John’s Reflections Regarding His Daily Life Post-Treatment
As the surgery progressed, John began thinking about how he expected the results to affect his daily routine. With the diseased tissue removed, he thought he would experience less concern about the appearance of the scalp lesions, less unwanted attention, and fewer questions from others.
The anticipation of the outcome was not to be a dramatic change; rather it was to be able to resume routine activities such as spending time with friends, being able to go out without giving a second thought to his scalp condition. Lastly, he’s looking forward to interacting with others with a sense of comfort and normalcy.
