This patient from Los Angeles, Hollywood enjoyed wearing earrings and wanted to wear them again one day. A torn earlobe from earrings can take the form of a downward stretch in the tissue or it can be torn all the way through the lobe. This patient’s earlobe was severed all the way through. Dr. U recommended a split ear repair surgery that would mend the split earlobe so the patient would be able to wear earrings again.

The procedure for earlobe surgery can be done by a dermatologist at their office instead of at a hospital. Local anesthesia is injected, allowing the patient to not feel pain. The tear in the earlobe is refreshed using a scalpel and then stitched back together with sutures to reconstruct the earlobe’s previous shape. This is done by fixing the earlobe’s front surface, the tissue inside the earlobe, and the skin on the back surface of the earlobe. This creates a smooth-looking earlobe with minimal scarring.
