When Robert’s razor bumps or cicatricial folliculitis on the head began to migrate from the back of his head and to both sides of his head, hiding his skin condition with clothing and hats was impossible. Many people have experienced the same fate as Robert, in which the presence of the disease will eventually begin to disrupt daily life, and severely impact their self-worth.

AKN’s Effect on Career Options and Interacting with Society
Robert talks about the way his “coping” mechanisms went from physically hiding his scalp bumps, to socially withdrawing himself. By avoiding public view, Robert was able to emotionally manage his AKN. Many AKN patients tend to be drawn to careers that limit contact with society, such as being a truck driver, etc.
There are no formal statistics to document the number of AKN sufferers that seek employment in isolated positions, such as being a truck driver. However, there is a documented trend. Many of them seek out jobs that isolate themselves from the rest of society due to fear of being judged, or asked personal questions about their condition.

Hairline Bumps’ Influence on Confidence and Job Opportunities
Robert also discussed how his scalp condition has affected his confidence and job options. He felt like he was constantly feeling judged by other people. It has limited his job opportunities, and forced them to settle into a position that feels safe, rather than a position that would be fulfilling.
His statement—”I’m just me on the road”—symbolizes the journey that many AKN patients go through. They keep finding a way to accept the condition, but finding a solution for it. The Bumpinator’s help and services led him to a path where healing and empowerment is possible.
