Some of the men and women we have worked with have had to overcome enormous adversities that would otherwise have disheartened the rest of us. These fantastic stories speak to the human spirit. We felt inspired to commemorate these patients by rolling out the red carpet in their honor in front of our clinic’s Wall of Fame.
Our very first initiate, Rob Peeters, also known as @theBigLuckyBear on Instagram, suffered from Acne Keloidalis Nuchae and a disfigured scalp for 29 years before he found us. We invite you to learn more about his amazing AKN real life story.
An Extraordinary AKN Real Life Story
This patient of ours developed Acne Keloidalis Nuchae and another scalp condition called Cutis Verticis Gyrata that contributed to noticeable scalp deformities. More than anything, he wanted to participate in life like everyone else and not feel different due to his scalp conditions.
For years, he sought the help of different doctors, hoping to achieve a more normal-looking physical appearance.
However, due to the difficulty associated with removing his tissue outgrowths and addressing the folds on his scalp, he was rejected by many specialists.
Nonetheless, this patient did not give up hope. Deep down, something told him to keep on with his search to find the right doctor.
For his surgical treatment, we studied his condition carefully to develop a highly customized approach to help him reach new milestones in the way he appeared.
It’s Never Too Late to Reinvent Yourself
We realize that this patient’s resilience and drive to move forward in life are not familiar to everyone.
It is natural for people to feel that their situation is hopeless when others tell them nothing could be done to turn things around. Emotionally, it becomes easy to resign to feelings of despair and withdraw to a state of victimhood, accept a fate that is less than what might be considered ideal.
This special gentleman did the exact opposite. Not only did he challenge the assumptions made about his case and prevailed, but he is also now able to finally live the life he has been envisioning.

Following his procedures with us, he has committed to living a more active workout lifestyle and losing weight. He is also eager to make new social connections and friendships.
As @thebigluckybear on IG, he regularly shares his fitness and health journey while promoting AKN awareness. He proudly features images of his new healthy diet choices and his workout achievements (e.g., walking, lunge sets, etc.)
Using the power of social media, Big Lucky Bear hopes to educate others about the AKN condition, treatment options, and how to cope with life situations. He now aspires to be a role model for anyone who feels stuck in seemingly impossible circumstances.
Though all of us hear messages of positivity (i.e., through books, speeches, videos, seminars, friends, family, etc.), nothing can be more inspiring than learning about the real-life personal journey of someone who has lived through adverse life situations and succeeds at breaking through to start embarking on their very best life.
