Natural Looking Hair Transplant and Hair Piece Combination Achieved with Dr.UGraft™ Surgery

This patient from Redondo Beach, Los Angeles had undergone several past hair restoration surgeries using older methods at other clinics. Not only did he continue to struggle with baldness, but also a badly ravaged donor area on his scalp. The patient wanted to wear a hairpiece. However, this did not look natural or realistic without a hairline or temples. Another challenge that he faced was not having head donor hair to create these details. He chose Dr. U for a Dr.UGraft procedure to achieve a hair transplant and hairpiece combination using body hair grafts.

This patient could only achieve a hairline border and temples through the use of body hair. Follicles from areas outside the scalp can only be safely extracted with highly specialized punch tools. This is because body hair tends to grow at very sharp angles. With a general Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) punch, the surgeon cannot rely on the angle of the visible part of the hair since it changes below the skin’s surface.

Using this type of instrument along the same trajectory will slice straight through the graft.

The angle of body hair tends to change below the skin's surface. Because of this, regular FUE punches are more likely to cut straight through the graft

The Dr.UGraft™ rotary punch made it possible to safely harvest the right number of beard and chest hairs. This technology is engineered to grip the tissue surrounding the graft and gently pull it up through an intelligent, self-navigating mechanism. This approach does not rely on hair angles to safely harvest grafts. With Dr.UGraft™ rotary devices, it is possible to harvest larger quantities of donor hair to repair the results of badly performed hair transplant procedures

Frequently Asked Questions About the Dr.UGraft

Hair Transplant and Hair Piece Combination Procedures

If I am interested in a hair transplant to accommodate a partial hairpiece, should I plan on using body hair?

Dr. Umar prioritizes the use of head donor hair if enough quantities of this graft type are available. However, if most of the scalp donor hair has been depleted, the use of body hair grafts will be considered as a secondary resource.

Is it possible for me to choose a hair transplant and hairpiece combination surgery and then transition to a full procedure with full coverage at a later point?

Yes, it is possible to undergo hair restoration surgery in gradual stages, as you described. However, in order for you to achieve a more comprehensive form of coverage, down the road, you will need to have enough grafts. If your scalp alone cannot provide the required number of follicles, body hair may be considered to achieve your goals

If I need to undergo a body hair transplant for a hairpiece integration procedure, can I choose the type of hair that I want?

Patients can certainly express their preference for a particular hair type. However, certain priorities will need to be considered. These include, how well they will blend in with the surrounding areas and whether there is enough hair from a chosen region to meet your goals.
