Dr. Umar has decided to send two tissue samples for biopsy, one of the folliculitis decalvans mass, and one of normal scalp tissue. This enables Dr. Umar to confirm what he already suspects, that the precursor condition, acne keloidalis nuchae, is also present.

Anwar Wants People to Notice Him, Not His Scalp Condition
Anwar knows that if he has a more common condition like acne or vitiligo, people might not ask him many questions, and the condition would have less of an impact on his life. Instead, due to FD not being very common or well-known, Anwar finds himself the object of stares and the subject of questions. He is afraid people see his disease, and not him.

“I think best case scenario is I’m left with a more flatter, hairless scar, which people might, attribute to nothing, and what that changes is that folks will have less questions because it’s not something that’s widely known about,” Anwar states…”But what I have, folks don’t really know what it is, so the conversation starts out as what is that, as opposed to, what are the other parts about you.”.
