Anwar has been on an emotional roller coaster for years, and so has his father, Aldwyn. Now, thanks to Dr. Umar’s innovative techniques, they both have reason to hope. “I am cautiously optimistic,” Aldwyn states. “There is always an element of risk, but I think with the research he has done and the doctor’s track record, this puts him in the 90th percentile success rate.”
Ready to Begin
Dr. Umar and his staff have made all the necessary preparations to ensure a safe, successful surgery. His office and surgical suites are state-of-the-art, and his surgical team functions as an extension of the doctor himself. “Looks like we are all set,” Dr. Umar says to Anwar.
Dr. Umar gives directions to his medical assistant to start the IV, administer medications, and get started with the surgery. He reassures Aldwyn that Anwar is going to be fine, and leads Aldwyn out into the waiting area. “This might take about two hours or less,” Dr. Umar says.
Anwar Wants to Achieve Great Things
Folliculitis decalvans impacts Anwar’s life in many ways. The large FD mass has unfortunately become a focal point of Anwar’s appearance, and this is especially true at work. He believes his coworkers and his boss are more focused on his appearance than on his achievements. “Work is going great,” he says. “I do think that if I want to ascend into higher levels of leadership, it will be less about my technical skills and experiential skills, and more about my presentation, so I think this can pay dividends in the future.”
Meanwhile, Aldwyn Tries to Relax
Aldwyn is sitting patiently in a comfortable chair as the surgery begins. He and Anwar have both been waiting a long time for this moment, and Aldwyn is excited about a new outcome for his son. When asked about his hopes, he simply says, “I hope that they are done on time, and I can see him again.”
The Surgery Begins
“We are ready,” Dr. Umar’s surgical team announces. They have prepped Anwar for the procedure to remove the mass. Anwar is lying face down on the operating table, with the mass exposed for easy access. “All right. Are we ready?” Dr. Umar asks. It’s time for the surgery to begin.
