Missed Connections
“It definitely made me feel like I couldn’t go out as often as I wanted to,” Adrian said about his AKN on The BaldCast. He felt anxiety about the attention his scalp bump would get. That paranoia chipped away at his peace of mind until simply stepping outside became a challenge. He didn’t feel comfortable leaving his home unless he was fully covered.
Neverending Excuses
As the years went on, Adrian found himself making excuse after excuse to avoid being seen. He often told people he wasn’t feeling well or was too busy. Those excuses piled up, and before long, he had completely cut himself off from the people who cared about him. Living apart from his mom only added to the problem. She couldn’t easily check in or notice just how withdrawn he had become. The longer Adrian stayed isolated, the harder it became to break the cycle. His motivation to seek help declined, and the process of getting AKN treatment stretched out far longer than it needed to.
