Video: How a Dermatologist Hair Loss Specialist Approaches FUE Across Hair Types

Different hair types and skin characteristics can create different demands during follicular unit extraction. In this short educational video, dermatologist hair loss specialist Sanusi Umar, MD, presents UGraft Zeus as a skin-responsive FUE system developed to adapt to those differences during graft extraction.

Why FUE Is Not One-Size-Fits-All

The video moves through several donor scenarios: regular shaved FUE, Afro or tightly curled hair FUE, long-hair FUE, and body-hair FUE. The accompanying caption adds that donor areas may differ in hair angle, follicle direction, skin thickness, and skin firmness. Those variables are the practical problem the system was designed to address.

As the caption puts it, “Different hair types. Different skin characteristics. One FUE system designed to adapt.”

A Skin-Responsive FUE System

UGraft Zeus was developed to help physicians navigate changing donor conditions. The caption specifically identifies its Intelligent Punch and skin-responsive driver, while the video highlights a simple region-of-surgery selection followed by automatic system calibration for the donor area.

The central idea is adaptation. Rather than treating straight or wavy scalp hair, tightly curled hair, long hair, and body hair as identical extraction settings, the system is presented as responding to the characteristics of the selected donor region.

Designing Technology Around the Donor Area

The short video closes by emphasizing the UGraft Zeus platform and the principle behind it: when hair and skin characteristics change, the technology should be designed to respond. It also describes the device as multicenter studied. The focus is not a hair transplant before and after result for one patient, but the engineering approach used to support physicians across different FUE donor situations.

Suitability for FUE and treatment planning still require an individual medical evaluation, and individual results vary.
