The Universe Begins with U

Two men. Two different diagnoses. One shared reality: by the time they reached Dr. U Skin & Hair Clinic, the usual options had failed, and both had spent years living under the judgment of others. This film brings together Kevin’s severe dissecting cellulitis treatment story and Festus’s battle with aggressive keloid recurrence. Kevin’s condition began with irritation after haircuts. Small bumps progressed to abscesses, drainage, deep tunnels, scarring, and extensive hair loss. Isotretinoin, antibiotics, topical and oral steroids, injections, and surgery failed to bring meaningful control. The physical burden was compounded by criticism, isolation, the need to cover his scalp, and the distress carried by his family. Dissecting cellulitis is a severe inflammatory scalp disease that can destroy hair follicles, form connected abscesses and sinus tracts, and replace normal scalp with inflamed scar tissue. It may occur alongside hidradenitis suppurativa, severe cystic acne, and pilonidal disease. It is not contagious. When Sanusi Umar, MD, first evaluated Kevin, total scalp excision with skin grafting appeared likely. Dr. U did not rush to that last option. He began a staged, diagnosis-specific plan and adjusted it as Kevin’s scalp changed. Treatment included medication, topical Gashee, a phytoactive botanical developed by Dr. U, laser therapy, and ultimately a more limited surgery. The film documents progress while making clear that further aesthetic work was still planned. Festus faced a different challenge. Massive keloids covered his lower jaw and extended through his neck, cheek, and ears. Four prior keloid scar removal procedures, steroid injections, and radiation had failed, with the keloids returning more aggressively. After Dr. U treated the right side and used postoperative radiation, the repair broke down and the covering skin sloughed off. The challenge was no longer simply removing the keloids. It was preventing another failed cycle. Dr. U developed a patent-pending approach using Festus’s own biology to support healing and address recurrence. After the right side healed and was monitored for several months, Dr. U used the same approach on the remaining left side. Festus’s homecoming became a powerful public moment. Friends, family, and pastors gathered, and some people struggled to recognize him. His change was not only about appearance. It was about no longer shrinking, covering, or disappearing. Together, these stories show why complex skin and scalp disease demands more than a routine procedure. Diagnosis matters. Treatment history matters. Each stage of response matters. So does a physician’s willingness to change the plan when the evidence changes. This video documents individual patient experiences and is not medical advice. Results vary. Treatment should be individualized and physician-led. Dr. U developed Gashee and the patent-pending method discussed in this film. What stood out most: moving Kevin away from total scalp excision, or rethinking keloid recurrence for Festus? Agree/Disagree: the best plan for a difficult case should change when the patient’s response changes.
