Video: Marcus and the Scalp Keloid That Changed His Life

Marcus Rogers was 35 and living in Baltimore, Maryland when he described how a scalp keloid changed his life after a hair transplant. What began about three months after surgery became a source of persistent pain, itching, discomfort, and an emotional burden that grew alongside the keloid.

A Keloid Appears After Hair Transplant Surgery

Marcus traced the beginning of the problem to his hair transplant surgery. About three months afterward, he noticed a keloid beginning to form on his scalp. From that point, he said he experienced pain, itchiness, and discomfort.

“I started to form a keloid,” Marcus recalled, describing the first sign of what would become a much larger problem.

The Growth Became Harder to Ignore

Over the years, Marcus said the keloid grew rapidly. During the first year, he described it as doubling in size. A year later, he said it began growing tremendously. The physical symptoms remained part of the experience, but the growing visibility of the keloid introduced another struggle.

“Once I realized that it was starting to be noticeable,” Marcus said, his confidence began to change.

When the Impact Went Beyond the Scalp

Marcus described becoming depressed and losing confidence as the keloid became more noticeable. He also spoke about feeling angry and wanting to hide away from the world. Recounting those years was difficult for him, and he became emotional while describing the experience.

“It’s been a really emotional and tough journey,” he said. Marcus also reflected on having very bad days and on how deeply the procedure and its aftermath affected him.
