Festus is ready for the next stage of treatment for his severe keloids, but Dr. Sanusi Umar is clear that this operation is not about removing every lesion at once. In Episode 3, Chapter 12 of The Bumpinator, Dr. Umar identifies the lesions he wants to address first and explains that the remaining targets can be handled in another surgery.
A Relaxed Start Before Surgery
As the procedure begins, Dr. Umar notices how relaxed Festus has become. “Looks like you’re going to sleep already,” he tells him, later noting that the sedatives appear to have taken effect quickly.
The light exchange gives way to a clear discussion of the surgical plan. Dr. Umar reminds Festus that they have talked about the approach several times and that only some of the lesions will be addressed during this session.
The Most Disturbing Lesions Come First
Dr. Umar states the priority directly: “We’ll remove the most, I believe, disturbing ones.” The rest, he explains, can be treated during another surgery. That makes this chapter about target selection rather than complete clearance.
For Festus, surgical removal of keloids is being approached in stages. Dr. Umar points out specific targets for the day, while deliberately leaving another lesion alone for the time being. If time allows, he says, they may move on to an additional target.
A Staged Plan, Not the End
The chapter does not present this session as a permanent solution for keloids or as the end of Festus’s treatment. Instead, it shows Dr. Umar making a deliberate choice about what to address now and what to leave for a later procedure.
Chapter 12 marks a turning point in Festus’s story. The immediate targets have been selected, but the larger treatment process is still unfolding. The next chapter continues from this surgical decision.
