Flap Excision Surgery Corrected Earlobe Keloid for Santa Monica Patient

Flap Excision Surgery Corrected Earlobe Keloid: Keloids form when scarred tissue becomes excessive in a particular area. Individuals of African, Asian, and Latin descent are more susceptible to the condition. While there are many treatments available for keloids, few prove useful in the long run, which leaves individuals suffering and often uncomfortable in their skin. This Santa Monica patient endured the agony and embarrassment of a keloid on her ear before undergoing the Flap Excision Surgery Corrected Earlobe Keloid procedure performed by Dr. U.

Before the Procedure

“I got it because I didn’t pierce my ear right,” the patient explained. She, like others, thought that a mistake during ear piercing was the reason for her development of a keloid on her right earlobe. In actuality, keloids do not result from botched piercings.

“I’ve had this for about five years,” the patient said. Although she underwent another procedure that granted instant gratification by cutting off the keloid, the patient admitted that the condition returned with a vengeance. “It didn’t come back until at least a year later, and it came back worse and started hurting.” When the pain became unbearable, the patient called Dr. U.

The Solution

Dr. U performed a flap excision surgical procedure to remedy the earlobe keloid on the patient’s right ear. A flap excision procedure involves removing damaged tissue, in this instance the keloid, and maneuvering surrounding skin so that the exposed area is covered. The operation is not equivalent to simply cutting off the keloid as flap excision seeks to remove all scarred tissue and not just the area most affected by overdevelopment.

The patient underwent Dr. U’s flap excision surgery and was overwhelmingly satisfied with the results.

“I’m really happy that I came to you because if I didn’t, I’m pretty sure I would still have my hair down,” she told Dr. U. “Summer’s coming, so it’s time to put your hair up,” the patient added. “I don’t have to worry about people looking at my ear like, ‘Oh, what’s that on her ear?’”
