How to Regrow Hair After a Congenital Facial Nevus: Alejandro’s Story

Alejandro was born with a birthmark that covered part of his face and scalp with dark, hair-bearing skin. As he grew up, the condition shaped more than his appearance. It also exposed him to stares and comments that stayed with him, making his story of how to regrow hair inseparable from confidence and the freedom to participate more fully in everyday life.

“Let’s start from the beginning,” Alejandro says. He explains that the area was black and had hair when he was born. Going out could be difficult because people would stare, point, or make comments. One memory from childhood still stands out.

When a Childhood Comment Stays With You

Alejandro remembers being about 10 years old and eating pizza with his family on a Sunday when someone made a remark about a Halloween costume. It was June. “What is that? You don’t say that to a 10-year-old kid,” he recalls.

He describes the experience as disheartening. The memory illustrates why his care could not be reduced to appearance alone. The approved background for the video notes that Alejandro had carried his congenital facial nevus since birth and had also been through surgeries. When Dr. Sanusi Umar discussed his options with him, the goal included addressing the physical areas affected by the condition while supporting confidence that had been worn down over time.

Medical Hair Restoration as Part of Moving Forward

Alejandro says he has “come a long way with the help of Dr. Umar.” His care included medical hair restoration, and the supplied background identifies early hair restoration results as an important moment in his progress. For Dr. Umar, seeing those early changes was memorable because the work was connected not only to appearance, but also to Alejandro beginning to reclaim parts of his life that had been overshadowed by fear and self-doubt.

The short video does not lay out every stage of a long-term hair restoration plan, so those details should remain individualized. What it does show clearly is the personal meaning Alejandro attaches to the progress he has made.

Branching Out and Exploring New Things

Alejandro describes the difference in practical terms. He is doing more, becoming more involved at school, branching out, and exploring new things. Those changes are his own account of where he is now, not a promise that another patient will have the same experience.

His story also reinforces the importance of approaching visible differences with basic respect. A comment that takes only seconds to make can stay with a child for years. For Alejandro, moving forward has meant receiving care while also giving himself room to participate, try new things, and define himself beyond what other people once chose to say.
